2nd Mose 20, 1-17
Bible
God made his
third great covenant
with the people of Israel
by giving Moses
the 10 Commandments.
On plate 1 are laid down
the commandments 1 to 3
which regulate
people's relationship with God.
On Plate 2 there are
the commandments 4 to 10
which regulate
interpersonal relationships.
The 3 old great covenants are in the stories
Noah, Abraham (see stories about the fathers) and Mose,
the 4th and new covenant is in Jesus (see Easter).
for each commandment:
I am the Lord your God,
who brought you out of Egypt,
out of the land of slavery.
You shall have no other gods before me.
(Think about it for ever! That's why ... )
people's relationship with God
in the form of anything in heaven above
or on the earth beneath
or in the water below.
You shall not bow down to them
or worship them; for
I, the Lord demand
your undivided love to me.
the name of the Lord your God, for
the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
by keeping it holy.
Six days you shall labour and
do all your work,
but the seventh day
is a Sabbath to the Lord your God.
interpersonal relationships
so that you may live long in the land
the Lord your God is giving you.
You shall not murder.
You shall not steal.
(Don't rob somebody's freedom and/or property.)
your neighbour or any human being.
Don't take away (covet) your neighbour's house.
Dont't try to take away (covet) what belongs to another person,
neither his wife nor his slaves, cattle or donkey,
nor anything else that belongs to him.
